The boot area was finally finished , the replacement carpet arrived and I trimmed it to suit. The chrome bumper was offered up and fitted well I used rubber gaskets as used on the front bumper at the 4 contact point with the paintwork, again to eliminate wear or chipping. The boot lid is now on, I used some1mm neoprene rubber as a gasket between it and the hinge to protect the paint but also provide some friction when adjusting the boot lid to get the gaps right. Using the white stag I trailered the car down to Cambridge on Wed 24th to get it's windscreen in. The local windscreen company was a bit unsure on how to do it and with the help of David Greed tracked down a man with a long history in Triumphs. It was still 8 hours work for the guy, but a fine job was the result. The following day I trailered the car up to Auckland to Stag 4x4 - a company that used to specialise in stags, but due to a falling prices in stags, has moved on to 4x4 work, primarily Land Rover. Still on a good day up to 3 stags are there and the occasional TR7/8. It was recommended that I did not bring the white stag to tow it back as it is common for the rear end to bend above the wheel arch if too heavy a load (i.e. another stag) is trailered! The white stag had a lumenition electronic unit in it for the original V8. It was now surplus so it is now destined for LeStag.
4th: Fitted drivers door and hinges. Used masking tape on door frame and door to protect the paint. Paint stripped the center grill and spray painted semi gloss. Used the 3M 471 Plastic Tape (Blue) which seemed to be the right width. 5th: Pulled the bezels off the dash instruments. Cause it is a MK2 the bezels are painted matt black on the inner. Again the 3M 471 Plastic Tape was just the right width for masking. Just used a matt black etch primer aerosol. Fitted dash , glove box and dash instruments. I used 3M rubbing compound on the dash wood. it polished up great. Used a furniture polish (Pledge) over the top of that to remove the remains of the rubbing compound in the cracks. Nearly as good as new , but as there are cracks in the varnish , a re-veneer is on the cards in the next few months. 20th: Fitted the Bonnet cable and latches, first lineup attempt on the bonnet. Looking like a real stag now. June 27 , fine day so too it in for it's Warrant of Fitness (WOF).
