Resurrection of Le Stag

The spindle seal  contains two parts a copper “sheath” and a rubber seal. which way round does the o-ring go? the flat face of the seal to the flat face of the copper sheath so the “V” is pointing out like on the left or the other way to the “V” is pointing in on the right of photo??

where did this o-ring come from?
